Consequences of the Mask

During and after Demon Keyoto's meeting with the Commando League of Generals (CLG) leader Guyers, Demon Keyoto has repeated his request for the mask of the fallen Demon Vlad to be returned. The nature of this request has remained unclear to the CM. Jill Matsmoti has sent a message to Demon Keyoto offering the mask in exchange for the assassination of Dr. Qwo. Keyoto at first dismissed the idea, but later decided the risk was low and believes Qwo death is worth Vlad's mask and the secret that lies with it. He has given Edosu the responsibility of assassinating Qwo and retrieving the mask.

Yamada and Tang Fu Lii arrive at the Black Ninja secret fortress on a rainy spring night. Both are curious about this mask offer. They both enter and greet Jill Matsmoti who is sitting in her study, writing several notes in her journal. Yamada shouts, "We have arrived and would like to see this mask before your meeting with Edosu. I'm curious to see what all this fuss is over." Jill stands and tosses the mask to Yamada and says, "Here, take a look. I'm baffled by the continuous request for this. It's been months since I've killed Vlad, I wonder why Keyoto wants that mask so bad right now." Tang says, "I find that really odd too. I heard he raised this issue to Guyers several times but never gave details. Guyers really could care less." Jill says, "My concern is the offer itself to kill Qwo. Qwo has denounced (former Lord) Hamuru and has made it clear that his wants me dead. I hope this mission goes smoothly and the CLG are okay with this." Yamada barks, "Those foolish, washed-up generals, they could care less about old Qwo. He's yesterday's news. I hope Edosu gets caught by the Zang supporters. I'd like to see Keyoto have to get him out of that." Jill answers, "I hope he succeeds. This is a delicate political situation that could blow up in our faces." Yamada laughs and says, "In your face blondie. I have nothing to do with this. I'm just eager to see Keyoto's ninjas fail at this." Tang looks the mask over and notices something etched on the under plate of the mask. Tang draws these etchings down in his notebook. He says, "I've noticed these marks on the underface of the mask. I'll have to research this. Maybe this has some importance. Jill, when will you give the mask to Edosu?" Jill responds, "When I have been given confirmation of Qwo's death." Tang says, "That will give me some time to research this."

On a dark, wet forest path, Edosu, Demon Devin, General Hiroto, and Demon Keyoto stand as Edosu receives his final orders regarding this mission. Keyoto says as a fine mist comes down over them, "You did a good job overseeing our compound while we were away the other week. You need to prove yourself to this clan and to redeem yourself after your actions with Juki Wu and the CM some months ago. This mission is important. Dr. Qwo is an elderly flunky of a former CM lord's family that still has influence and who happens to be quite wealthy. Give no traces to who killed Qwo. I can't have the Zang family as enemies at this time. I will send Demon Devin with you as an aide. She will be at your disposal." Hiroto says, "I wish you luck and strength on your mission my son. Be safe and return victorious." Edosu says, "I will not fail you Master Keyoto, father. Erisu was a success on his recent mission, I have to equal the honors he has just received." Soon Edosu and Devin dart off into the night. Keyoto says to Hiroto while on their way home, "I hope he can pull this off. If I get that mask back, we will have a mountain of wealth to build our empire, literally." Hiroto asks, "Are you concerned by Matsmoti and the CM? They may not honor their side of this deal." Keyoto says, "They don't know what the importance of that mask. Even if they did know, it would do them no good. You see, the location of the silver mine is etched in Vlad's, YD's, and my mask. Only if all mask are together can you read the directions to the mine's locations. I knew I may one day need that mines wealth. Now would be a good time. As for Matsmoti, she wants Qwo dead, for good reason too. I don't get the impression she would want that mask after Qwo was dead."

The following afternoon, Edosu and Devin arrive at the location where Jill Matsmoti said she would show the mask. They stand for several minutes. Devin says, "I hope she arrives soon. I've been waiting a long time to see this mask. She better not give us any trouble." Edosu says, "I'll have to control myself, I still want to strangle her for killing your uncle. I will have her head someday. That....." Before Edosu can finish is sentence, Jill Matsmoti appears from behind a tree. She says, "Is this what you are looking for?" She holds up Vlad's mask. Devin slowly walks forward and says, "You bitch, you killed my uncle. You're lucky we are under orders from Keyoto or else you'd be in a world of trouble." Jill walks up to Devin and says, "I killed your uncle in battle. If you wish to fight me in the future, just let me know." She shows the mask to Devin. Devin turns to Edosu and says, "This is my uncles mask." Jill says as she hands a note to Devin, "These are directions to the Zang compound. Dr. Qwo is in the main palace. He is sixty-five years old, bald, has giant bags under his eyes, and had a distinctive mustache. I drew a picture of him on the note." Edosu shouts, "I know what he looks like. Stop insulting my intelligence. If you were as half as good as you think you are, you'd have already killed him. When we get his head, you will hand over that mask." Jill nods and says, "Agreed!" Devin and Edosu take off down the trail.

For two days Edosu and Devin travel before coming to the Zang compound. They arrive on a late evening and make plans for their assassination mission. Devin says, "This should be easy. This place looks like it has alot of money. I think we should 'liberate' some of this places' belongings while we are here. We could always use a little extra." Devin winks to Edosu. Edosu says, "We have to stay focused on this mission. I'll go in and behead Qwo. After I have bagged his head, then we can pick up a few things." Devin laughs and says, "Good!" As nightfall overtakes the area Edosu and Devin enter a catering wagon as it enters the compound. They are not detected by the wagon's elderly owner. After the wagon is stopped and placed in the main house, Devin and Edosu quickly leave, unnoticed. Edosu whispers to Devin, "I'll go into the quarters now and take care of business. You keep a lookout. Be ready for anything." Edosu swiftly heads to the main quarters and notices very few guards. He walks down a dark corridor and enters a room and sees a man writing at his desk. The room is full of beauty. Edosu thinks to himself, "I'm glad Devin didn't come up here. She would have loved this place." He runs up to the man and hears a baby crying in the adjacent room. The man turns and sees Edosu and says, "Who are you. Get out of this place." The man shouts for the guards but Edosu beheads him. He quickly grabs the head and bags it. A woman enter the room and screams in horror. He swings his sword at her but misses. He then drop kicks her to the floor as he exits. Within seconds Edosu makes his way back down to the main floor and to Devin. He tosses her a diamond necklace he stole from the room. He say, "You would have loved to see the place I went." Devin looks around as the alarms are sounded and both run for the main gate. Several guards attack them as they try to climb over the wall around the compound. Devin cuts them down as Edosu crawls up the wall and yells to Devin, "Give me your hand. Let's go!" The lights of the compound light up as a huge siren goes off. Devin and Edosu manage to cross over the wall and run into the nearby woods. The compound guards run into the woods after them.

Edosu and Devin find a small ditch within the forest to hide as the Zang compound guards search the area. After a night of hiding, Edosu and Devin crawl out of the ditch and make their way to the Demon compound. Devin asks Edosu, "Why do you want to go to the (Demon) compound now? Don't you want to get my uncle's mask back from Jill Matsmoti?" Edosu says to her, "I want to give this to Keyoto first. He can demand a better deal with this head. This will give him more leverage with his dealings with the CM. I want Jill to beg me for this." Devin says, "I guess you're right." Edosu adds, "My brother was successful with his mission, but this will top that. Now Keyoto can demand Jill to stand trial for Vlad's death. He could frame Jill as Qwo's murderer. The possibilities are endless." Devin says, "Okay, okay, let Keyoto figure this out."

The next morning Jill is furious that Edosu and Devin have not returned with Qwo's head. Within her fortress, Jack Yakama has arrived and said that an assassination had taken place at the Zang compound. Jill becomes even more furious. She shouts, "Why did they not meet me at the rendezvous point last night. Those two fools. I hope they didn't want to change the conditions on this agreement." Jack adds, "They better get a hold of you soon or the CLG are going to start asking questions. Adams has already sent Shadow Tonata to get the facts." Jill says, "I should have been more patient. Why did I entrust those two to do this. Couldn't Keyoto have sent Yellow Demon?" Jack replies, "They could have died in the escape and the news hasn't been released." Jill replies as she paces, "I don't like this at all. This looks bad, real bad." A Black Ninja enters the room and hands Jill a message. Jill reads it and falls to her knees with astonishment. Jack rushed over and asks, "What is it? Is this news of the assassination?" Jill looks blankly around and says, "Those fools, I simply can't believe it."

Edosu and Devin reach the Demon/Fire Ninja compound after a long journey. They rush in and ask for Keyoto. Juki Wu looks at Devin and hisses, "Do you have the mask? It looks like the head. I thought you were to exchange the head for the mask?" Edosu says with excitement, "I got the head and Keyoto can use it as leverage in his next demand. Jill will certainly do what he asks now." Keyoto, YD, Gen. Hiroto, Zanatogi, and Erisu enter the room. Keyoto sits on his throne and says, "Do you have Demon Vlad's mask?" Edosu says, "I got something even better master. I got the head of Qwo. With this you can blackmail Jill and the CLG's. You can have even more then the mask." Keyoto barks, "I thought I gave you orders to give me Vlad's mask. We need the mask. Qwo's head is of no real use to us. The mask is worth much, much more." YD says, "Okay, give Keyoto the head. He'll decide on the next demand." Edosu hands the bagged head to Demon Keyoto. Edosu backs off and kneels. Demon Keyoto slowly unwraps the head from the bag. Hiroto asks, "Did the Zang compound staff spot you two?" Devins says, "A few may have. After Edosu beheaded Qwo, the guards were alerted. We did escape quickly though. That place wasn't well guarded." Keyoto reveals the head and looks stone faced at it. Hiroto gasps. Keyoto leaps to his feet and roars, "What in the hell have you brought me! This isn't DR. Qwo you fool. This is CM National Council President Quinn's head!"

Edosu and Devin look shocked, Edosu says timidly, "Qwo, Quinn, what's the difference?" Keyoto shouts, "Quinn is....was one of the most powerful politicians in this country. His wife is Ranee Hamada, the mother of Zamada...Lord Zang's only son. Quinn and Qwo live in the same building. You *#*#& idiot, this is a complete disaster." Keyoto tosses the head to Erisu and grabs Devin and Edosu. He snarls, "I don't know if you two were seen, but if so, I may very well kill both of you for pure stupidity. This single action could destroy our clan."

Jack Yakama asks Jill to read the message she has just received. Jill looks up at Jack and says, "Those two imbeciles killed Quinn, National Council President Quinn, instead of Dr. Qwo. I can't believe it. Qwo and the Zang family will soon know why the Demons were there. The CLG are going to be furious. I may be....executed for this." Jack cries out, "What, this is outrageous. How could they have mixed Qwo and Quinn up. Didn't they know what they look like. They look nothing alike. Guyers just spoke at the National Council a few days ago. Quinn was to be a guest at the base next week." Jill say, "I have to hide or I'll be killed. I totally let my hatred for Qwo overtake my common sense." Jack says, "Came with me, we'll see Tang and the Fox's. We will all protect you."
